Planning a first date after meeting online

A first meeting is a chance to see whether you enjoy each other's company in person. It does not need to be an elaborate occasion or a decision about your future. Whether you are meeting in Iran or abroad, choose plans that fit your circumstances and that either person can comfortably decline or end.

Agree on the plan together

Suggest a specific public place, a time, and a short initial meeting. Ask whether the location and activity suit the other person, including any access needs or preferences they want to share. Confirm the details before travelling. If the plan changes to a private home or an unfamiliar remote location, you can say no and suggest the original public arrangement instead.

Keep your own way home

Arrange your own transport and keep enough money and phone charge to leave independently. Tell someone you trust where you plan to be and agree on a check-in. If travel or an overnight stay is involved, make your own accommodation arrangements. These precautions reduce dependence on someone you have not met; they cannot guarantee that a meeting will be safe.

Take pressure out of the conversation

Begin with something you already discussed, such as a hobby or a favourite meal. Leave room for silences and questions in both directions. You can discuss dating intentions without demanding a commitment during the meeting. Agree on spending within your comfort level rather than assuming gender or cultural background determines who pays. A gift or payment never creates an obligation to continue the date.

Use a simple checklist

  • We have both agreed to the place and time.
  • The venue is public and I know how I will get home.
  • Someone I trust knows my plan.
  • I can end the meeting without relying on my date.
  • I have not promised more contact, affection, or a relationship.

Decide what you want afterwards

If you would like to meet again, say so without demanding an immediate answer. If you do not, a brief clear message is enough when you feel comfortable sending one. You do not owe an extended explanation. If the person pressures or threatens you, stop engaging and use the available blocking and reporting options. Respect the same choice when someone does not want another date with you.
